The market was so hot, listings were selling in days, not weeks or months, so many agents avoided a potentially difficult conversation by NOT asking for a full-term listing. There are LOTS of reasons (besides cooler market conditions) for getting the full term signed into the listing contract with your sellers. But what if they push back?
